About

Born and raised in Arizona, love the heat but hate the heat. Have always had a critical thinking mindset about my problems and engineering came naturally to me.My first program was a simple "Choose your own Adventure" game that I programmed into my TI-84 Calculator during pre-calculus in High School. Starting at such a low level made me think deeply about what was actually happening behind the scenes and not obscured by fancy functions. So began my journey

Work History

Nationwide Insurance (Summer 2019)

  • Develop and maintain continuous integration and deployment pipelines

  • Maintain and update current platforms during transition to AWS

Halen LLC (Jun 2017 - Jun 2023)

  • Design and develop full stack system for IoT products including API and device firmware

  • Marketing and customer discovery for innovative features

  • Present products in pitch competitions for funding

  • Received $50,000+ in funding through ASU and Venture Devil sources

Nextiva (Jul 2019 - Present)

  • Design, implement, and test all internal API endpoints relating to Identity and Access Management (IAM)

  • Maintain secure coding practices and high levels of code coverage for minimal issues when releasing

  • Work closely with Solutions Architects to innovate and simplify workflows and services

  • Implemented SCIM application to facilitate user sync between Azure AD and Nextiva Users

Skills

Languages

  • Learned Java in school. Used at Nationwide and Nextiva extensively

  • Learning Golang while at Nextiva on a new SCIM application

  • Am learning JavaScript and front end frameworks for home projects

  • Went over C and C++ in school and have tinkered with many Arduino projects involving C programming

  • Have made several at scripts in Python for automating simple tasks at home

Technologies

  • Proficient with Docker. Am comfortable with devcontainers for local development

  • Comfortable navigating and utilizing command line applications in Unix operating systems

  • 3D Printing is a big hobby of mine. I love looking for excuses to print different items for increased efficiency and simplicity

  • I wished I would have been taught more in depth about git in school but I have learned much about the tool. (Github: kevinjhale)

Sports

  • Any sport involving any sort of ball. You name it, I have probably played it. My most recent addictions are blitzball, softball, pickleball, and ultimate frisbee

Reading

  • I am a big fan of epic high fantasy and Sci-fi books. Some authors of note are Brandon Sanderson, Orson Scott Card, and Will Wight.

Service

  • This is probably where I spend most of my time. I am very involved in my neighborhood through neighborhood block parties, service projects, visits and community dinners hosted at my house.

  • Growing up, I got to see my parents always be serving others and getting to know everyone in their neighborhood and it inspired me to do the same
